Magnitude 6.4 QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS REGION

This 3rd quake which actually happened first out of the 3 recorded on January 9th, was the largest and occurred on the Juan Da Fuca Plate within the Subduction boundary. The 6.1 nearby actually happened on the Pacific plate boundary roughly 3 hours after the 1st quake hit. Within 12 hours of the 2nd quake, the 3 quake (mag 6.3) hit towards the lower end of the Juan Da Fuca plate boundary, also within the Subduction Zone. You can easily see how the energy may have traveled down the Cascadia Subduction Zone, which could have easily caused enough of a plate shift to force the tectonic event that transpired from the 3rd Quake, off of the coast of Oregon.
These types of quakes are not normal and DO indicate plate movement, which COULD contribute to a Subduction Zone triggering, that COULD rupture the entire length of the Cascadia Subduction Zone and cause massive Tsunami’s and ground shaking in the Pacific Northwest. The Pacific Northwest has never felt the raw power of a full Subduction Zone rupture, but I think that will be changing very soon!
