We’re Shaking – Literally as this is being typed!!!
// April 25th, 2008 // EarthQuakes
To my complete and utter disbelief this evening, I browsed over to the USGS Earthquake web page to view how many earthquakes the US has recorded over the past week. Currently we have 1,167 earthquakes reported within Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the mainland of America. This is the highest level I have ever witnessed in quakes recorded around the entire nation in a collective 7 day period.
It would appear as if the most seismic areas remain on the West Coast, with a primary emphasis on California. Alaska as well is equally if not more active than California. Washington and Oregon have numerous activities as well but nothing compared to California and Alaska.
To become a reported quake, the magnitude must be at minimal 1+. Meaning anything below a magnitude 1 would not be shown.
It would also appear that the Cascadia Subduction Zone is showing signs of life once again off of the coast of South – Central Oregon. This is good because small seismic episodes relieve stress from plate boundaries.
While typing this post, I can report on a recent quake that had transpired west of Reno, Nevada just inside of the Nevada Line, at a magnitude of 4.9. Numerous smaller quakes (M2’s & M3’s) are springing up right now as well. Meaning the total of quakes as of 11:53 p.m. on April 25th has been increased to 1,170. That is 3 quakes more than what this post started out with!

Here is a view of the Reno Cluster I specified in the bottom of the above post.

It is now 12:12 AM PST and the total is now up to 1,175…
At 12:24 AM PST, there are currently 1,180 recorded quakes. The 4.9 Reno area quake was felt upwards of at least 60 miles away due to a report from an individual living in California who called into Coast to Coast AM.
12:52 AM PST and there are now 1,190 reported quakes!!!
We may reach 1,200 quakes in no time at all.
Whoa!
Whoa is right, the states keep rockin. As of April 26th @ 10:17 AM, the current total is 1,235… This is really incredible!
@ 2:01 PM PST – There are currently 1,238 recorded quakes!
