Quakes appearing on the Cascadia Subduction Zone:
Over the past few weeks I have been noticing numerous magnitude 4+ quakes occurring on the Subduction zone located from northern California to the northern part of Vancouver Island, B.C.
These types of activities are not frequent in nature and as such cause myself some alarm. It would appear based on this recent activity that the pacific plate is indeed subducting and being so, the threat of a subduction related tremor may come into play soon.
In December of 2006 I stated that 2007 would be the year. Although this is purely based on speculation and a tingly feeling, I honestly believe that the current quake patterns set forth throughout the world over the last 7 months is indicating that my thoughts may have some justification. I told several people that in either February or August, we’d be hit with the big one! Since February has come and passed, I patiently await August.
My feelings on this matter stem from the increased seismic patterns currently in play. Numerous large scale 7+ magnitude quakes happening off of the Kuril Islands as well as the Solomon Islands on the Western Pacific Rim, only confirm my speculations. Granted I use the term speculation since this is all it truly is. However the Western United States has been extremely active with quake activity ranging from magnitude 1-5 for several months now with roughly 600-800+ quakes happening weekly. Alaska, which has always been very quake prone and active, has really been experiencing seismic activity on a level greater than any time before. California has been enduring hundreds of earthquakes a week on the San Andreas Fault network which thrusts itself into the southern exterior of the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Washington and Oregon remain virtually the same, but I have noticed a greater amount of seismicity on the Seattle Fault and surrounding faults in the Puget Sound Area.
Is this all vindictive of the times ahead? No one honestly would know for sure. However it is important for everyone to understand the importance of being safe. Especially those who reside in Kitsap County! We live on a Peninsula and when the big one hits, we’ll be stuck here. Bridges will be closed due to the severity of the quake to come. I say this because a Subduction Quake will last anywhere from 4-6 minutes and be magnitude 9+. The only access off of the Peninsula following that type of event will be by driving down through Shelton, and if you have ever driven there, good luck getting through it in any type of generous time frame.
