I just picked up an old Seth Thomas mantel clock, How do you wind it up?
It has two key holes one on the left and one on the right of the dial. I bought the keys on e-bay and both key hole are a different in size. The clock is from the 19th century I think the 1880's. It is one of those adamentine clocks. I just don't know if I wind clock wise or counter clock wise.I hate to damage the springs. Can anyone help?
The wind is counter clock wise. That is the way mine is. One hole is for the time and the other is for the chimes. n When you go to set the time on the clock you have to wait for the chimes to cycle. Usually on the half hour. Some clocks chime every quarter hour.
If you don't do this the clock may point to three and the chimes ring eight.
