Seiko Celebrates 130th Anniversary With Stunning Limited Edition Watches
Seiko Celebrates 130 years of precision time keeping devices on December of this year, and what an incredible 130 years it has been. From the introduction of the first quartz watch to the introduction of the spring drive, Seiko has been a leader the watch industry for over a century.
For the 130th anniversary, Seiko is releasing three limited edition Grand Seiko watches, three Ananta Seiko Watches, 16 Seiko Premier watches, two commemorative clocks, and one Credor watch, Seiko's luxury brand division. That is a total of 21 limited edition Seiko timepieces.
The first set of limited edition watches is a trio of Grand Seiko with a mechanical hand winding Caliber 9S64 movement. These three watches deliver a three-day power reserve, and come in stainless steel, gold, and platinum. Seiko will make 1,300 of the stainless steel version, 130 of the gold, and 130 of the platinum.
The first of the three Anantas is the SRQ013, an Automatic Chronograph Diver's watch with a 34 jewel Automatic movement with manual winding capability and a water resistance of up to 200m. Seiko will produce 700 of these limited edition watches.
The next Ananta is an Automatic Chronograph model number SRQ011. This watch offers a 100m water resistance rating and will sell for 2,700 Euros, about $3,827 US Dollars.
The last Ananta is the Multi-hand Automatic SPB021. The stainless steel watch will sell for 1800 Euros, or $2551 US Dollars. This one is my favorite of the bunch.
For the 130th Anniversary Premier watches, Seiko decided to offer us some more variety. Seiko is producing 16 distinct Premier Seiko watches including five women's watches. The first set of these is a set of 24 jewel automatics with a 24-hour indicator. All of them use a Caliber 4R39 with an "open heart" window at 9 o'clock and a see though back to show off the mechanism. They will sell for about 540 to 590 Euros, or about $771 to $842 US Dollars.
The next set is a set of Kinetic Perpetual calendar watches. The feature the 7D48 Caliber and will cost between 720 and 840 Euros, or between $1028 to $1200.
Seiko is releasing 5 premier women Seiko watches, two of which feature a mother of pearl dial. These watches will use the Caliber 7N82 and will cost between 300 and 390 Euros, or $428 and $557.
Seiko is also releasing two desk clocks, and a unique Credor watch. Credor is Seiko's High-end brand, and this watch certainly shows it. At 34,650,000 Japanese Yen, this watch is more expensive than all of the other watches combined. That is $450,994 Dollars! This 112 Jewel Credor Spring Drive Minute Repeater features a "skeleton" design showing all of the watch's mechanism.
As you can see, Seiko's line up of 130 Anniversary watches is a nice one. After lusting over some of these watches, my only thoughts are:
