Problems To Look For When Buying An LCD TV
When buying an LCD TV it is a good idea to check as many reviews as you can, to determine if there are any inherent problems with any brands. There are a number of things you need to consider when buying a new or used LCD TV to avoid buying one with potential problems that others have experienced. I will look at a list of potential problems to help you get a good quality LCD TV.
One of the most common problems, especially when buying an older model LCD TV is motion blur. This can occur when watching fast moving images, such as action movies or sports broadcasts and is related to the refresh rate of the TV. The faster the refresh rate, the better the quality of the picture. Check the TV specs for a MHz figure. Anything around 60 MHz could result in motion blur. When you get over 120 MHz, the TV picture is updated at a speed that tends to reduce the motion blur to a point where the human eye can not detect any delay. This is an important issue to consider when buying an LCD TV if you are going to watch a lot of sports.
Depending on how you receive your signal, be it cable, satellite or conventional, you may notice a delay in finding a signal when changing channel. The reason is due to different resolutions of signals that the LCD TV receives. It must scale the signal to match the resolution of the TV. So high resolution signals are scaled back and low resolution signals must be scaled up to be shown on the television. This may take a little time, and is not necessarily a problem with the TV.
One of the biggest problems with LCD TVs is the lack of a clear picture when viewed from an angle. This comes down to the LCD technology itself. However, it is reported that the larger the screen, the less of an issue this becomes. The best solution is to have the television located in a central spot so that viewing from a wide angle is not necessary.
Some of the older models of LCD TVs had a problem with glare reducing the picture quality. Technology has advanced to the point where newer televisions have an anti glare shield and a black base screen to largely eliminate the problem of glare.
The final problem I will discuss is brightness. Some older models of LCD TVs had a problem showing dark colors, distorting the balance of colors and the overall quality of the picture. Again, technology has advanced, and now the newer models have LED backlighting which addresses this problem.
These are a few of the problems to look out for when buying an LCD TV. Most of the problems discussed here have been addressed by advances in technology, so the newer models will produce a superior quality picture.

what is better for sports and video games lcd or plasma tvs. what has the best picture?
Plasma are much better for gaming because they have a much quicker response time. Even the best LCDs have about a 5ms response time while Plasmas all have 1ms or under response time.
If you have a bright room, LCDs will perform better for overall picture quality. Otherwise Plasmas are a better choice for picture too.
